Off-piste skiing is a fascinating experience which however requires a high sense of responsibility. Here you find some useful tips for your safety.
- Check your avalanche transceiver prior to each descent to ensure proper transmit and receive functions. Turn it on!
- Use helmet and rucksack with shovel, avalanche probe and first-aid kit.
- Check the weather! Bear in mind that the weather on the mountains can change quickly and unexpectedly by coming-up wind, fog or warming.
- Prior to leaving for the slopes check the local Scale of Avalanche Hazard Rating information.
- Pay attention to the avalanche warning light and information boards and follow the instructions issued by the ski patrol.
- In case of doubt: NEVER trust consisting tracks, as they do not guarantee safe snow and might even lead you in the wrong direction.
- When off-piste never travel alone. Maintain constant visual contact with members of your group, be cautious and ready to act.
- Avoid the steepest portions of the slopes. Venture steep slopes only one at a time by keeping enough distance between the group members.
- Attention! The off-piste terrain is known for its numerous sinkholes (sinkholes or dolines are natural depressions or funnel-shaped holes in the surface topography caused by gradual removal of soluble bedrock or by the collapse of caves)
- Safe the phone number of the lift company (06134 – 8400 2864) and of the mountain rescue (140) on your mobile for any case of emergency.

It is strongly recommended to not venture the Angeralm-option (off-piste ski terrain, long & demanding descent) after 3 pm.
